Elder Abuse education

Elder abuse is a crime.  Washington County has created a multi-disciplinary team to educate the communities about elder abuse.  In addition, it provides services to victims and their families.  The Washington County Elder Abuse Multi-disciplinary Team or MDT has members from the District Attorney’s office, adult protective services, law enforcement, healthcare, individuals from Elder Safe programs, and attorneys.  The MDT looks into abuse cases and sees what has to be done to make the necessary changes in care and procedures.

The Elder Safe program aids victims over 65 once a crime is reported to the police.  They are located at the Sheriff’s office and work with the District Attorney’s office, Department of Disability, Aging and Veterans’ services, and the police department.  They make sure needs are met and provide personal support to each victim and their families.

Confidential calls can be made to Adult Protective Services at 503-640-3489.  If someone you know is not safe, please contact a Elder Abuse attorney.  He or she will help the victim.
