The Elder Justice Act
For those of you who are not aware of the Elder Justice Act, it was created to combat elder abuse, neglect and exploitation. It has become part of President Obama’s health care bill.
Included in the Act is $400 million for adult protective services. It also establishes an Elder Justice Coordinating Council to “make recommendations on the coordination of activities of federal, state, local and private agencies and entities relating to elder abuse, neglect and exploitation. Finally, it includes the Patient Safety and Abuse Prevention Act, which is a national program to make sure criminal background checks are done on people looking for employment in nursing homes and long-term care facilities.
If you have questions regarding possible elder abuse or neglect, contact an experienced Washington State Elder Abuse Attorney who is knowledgeable on nursing home care issues and complaints.
