Frauds targeting Washington elderly

Some senior citizens are easy to scam since many can be found at home.  These scams are committed by strangers who pose as business people or government officials.

The U. S. Justice Department advises seniors to look out for ‘prize and sweepstakes frauds’.  Sometimes it starts with a congratulatory phone call or letter.  It states that you must pay a fee or tax in order to claim your prize.  The prize never comes.  Another common fraud, especially in today’s day of foreclosures, is that the person checks homes facing foreclosure at the local courthouse.  He or she contacts the homeowner and tries to trick them into signing documents that essentially transfers ownership to them.  Another fraud is asking for donations to charities that do not exist.

If your parent is the victim of a fraud, and there are many out there, contact an experienced Washington Elder Abuse attorney who will investigate for you.
