Fraud and senior citizens

AARP recently reported that many people over the age of 50 years are victims to some type of fraud.  The study spoke of “con criminals” – people who target older people and their savings accounts through the telephone, Internet and the mail system.  Other perpetrated frauds include making seniors believe they are contributing to a worthy charity – but none exists.  They prey on current events, such as earthquakes in foreign countries, or feeding orphans, animals or disabled veterans.  If you want to check on these “charities”, contact the Washington Secretary of State’s Office; ask for a registration number and financial report for the specific charity.

If you know someone who could fall into this category, it is important for you to educate yourself with the possible frauds out there.  If you have a loved one that felt prey to a “con criminal”, contact an experienced Elder Abuse Attorney who will investigate for you and your loved one.  Do not allow a “con criminal” to take your money.
